FEATURES

Feature submissions are long-form stories that are published in the print edition of Chief Learning Officer. These articles delve into a significant business issue or organizational challenge and explores that issue from multiple perspectives and/or proposes a point of view about how learning and development can play a role. Feature articles are journalistic and narrative in style and format and approach the topic from the point of view of the reader and their needs. Feature articles are not a marketing and advertising opportunity and any decisions about final content rests with the magazine’s editors.

Features should be 2,000 words and must be submitted in a Word document. The article must include a title, byline* and bio for the author.

CASE STUDIES
Case studies provide readers with best practices for strategically approaching specific learning and development issues. These case studies explore a specific challenge one organizations faced and how they approached the issue. Case studies should also include metrics associated with the implementation.

Case study submissions are not an opportunity to market a product, service or brand but rather the chance to tell a story and share insights that others can learn from.

Case studies should be 1,500 words and must be submitted in a Word document. The article must include a title, byline* and bio for the author.

IN PRACTICE SIDEBARS

In Practice sidebars are short case studies that run along with a longer feature in the magazine. These sidebars provide best practice implementations that relate to the larger feature article. Like  case studies, these sidebars should explore a challenge and organizations faced and how they approached and solved the issue. In Practice sidebars should also include metrics associated with the implementation.

In Practice sidebars should be 600 words and must be submitted in a Word document. The article must include a title, byline* and bio for the author.

IN CONCLUSION

Guest editorials that run in the In Conclusion section of the magazine are opinion-based articles. These editorials explore and provide commentary on a theme or issue within learning and development.

Guest editorials should be 750 words and must be submitted in a Word document. The article must include a title, byline* and bio for the author.

BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE FEATURES

Business Intelligence features take a research-based look at an issue or theme within learning and development. These articles provide research and analysis that learning and development leaders can use to make informed learning decisions.

Business intelligence features should be 1,500 words and must be submitted in a Word document. The article must include a title, byline* and bio for the author. In addition, charts or graphs are also highly desirable to run with business intelligence features.

WEB-ONLY FEATURES

Web-only features run online on the Chief Learning Officer website. These features can be on any topic and can run any length, however we suggest keeping these feature under 2,000 words. Due to the limited publication space within the print version of Chief Learning Officer magazine, most articles submitted will run as Web-only features.

Web-only features should be less than 2,000 words and must be submitted in a Word document. The article must include a title, byline* and bio for the author.

*AUTHOR AGREEMENTS

Once an article has been selected to run in Chief Learning Officer magazine or on the website, the author will be asked to sign an author’s agreement. Among other legalities, this contract verifies that the article selected for publication has not been published previously and that it will not be published again in the future without the consent of the publisher. In addition, the contract gives Chief Learning Officer rights to edit the article as needed for style and content.
